Democrats in Disarray!

No matter the story of the day or the D.C. political climate, journalists love one storyline above all others: “Republicans in Disarray.” This evergreen trope works with every shift in the news cycle:

  • Tea Party Loses Big, GOP in Disarray
  • Tea Party Wins Big, GOP in Disarray
  • Tea Party Future Uncertain, GOP in Disarray
A much rarer beast is the “Democrats in Disarray” story. Or it was until the Obamacare train rolled out of the station, tipped off the tracks then exploded, sparking fires at the nearby fertilizer and fireworks factories. Today The Hill published my favorite DiD story yet, chock full of disgruntled aides, anonymous quotes and censored profanity. Revel in a few excerpts, won’t you?
President Obama’s relationship with congressional Democrats has worsened to an unprecedented low, Democratic aides say.

“Here we are, we’re supposed to be selling this to people, and it’s all screwed up,” one chief of staff ranted. “This either gets fixed or this could be the demise of the Democratic Party.

“It’s probably the worst I’ve ever seen it,” the aide said of the recent mood on Capitol Hill. “It’s bad. It’s really bad.”

“There’s been an increase in frustration because people feel like they are continuing to be blindsided.”

“Is he even more unpopular than George W. Bush? I think that’s already happened,” said one Democratic chief of staff.

“The only way he can really make it up to us is by fixing this [expletive],” one Democratic House aide said.

Smarter folks than I can determine the best parliamentary tactics to exploit the situation or how it will affect the middle-aged female Asian immigrant turnout in CA-37. But don’t forget to take a few minutes to just look at the spectacle and mouth WOW.
